Wildflower Seeds: Blue Eyed Grass (Sysrinchium) Flowers

Blue Eyed Grass is a native wildflower that grows well and quickly from seed. Most versions in this article are true native wildflower seeds. There are some options that aren't strictly native flower seeds or plants, but they are still much better for the environment than traditional choices.

Not one of the native flowers, this version was created in a horticulture lab. These wildflower seeds were bred to be shorter than the original native flowers. Some gardeners like to have perennial wildflowers that stay short and manageable. This type of Blue Eyed Grass is a good choice for that. Also, this one comes in a one gallon pot, so it is ready to go in the ground right away. It will bloom the first season. It;s still a good choice- any blue eyed grass is better than other invasive blue garden flowers.

Naturalizes easily. Grows about 12 inches high. Prefers damp or moist areas. Good for slopes.

Grows 6-8 inches tall.  Prefers well drained  soil. Will grow in moist areas with  proper drainage. Requires full sun- at least six hours of sunshine per day.

This native wildflower prefers well-drained soil, but still on the moist side. Grow this variety of Blue Eyed Grass in full sun. They are strong perennial wildflowers in zones 5-9. May survive in colder climates with proper shelter.
