Gaillardia is a great native wildflower.

Some Gaillardia orange flowers are cultivars of the original native wildflowers. That means that the wildflower seeds and native flowers have been altered to have different colored blooms.

Their orange flowers may also have been genetically bred to have more petals, ruffled petals, or other alterations in appearance.

These orange wildflowers cannot be called true native plants, but they do far outshine calendula and marigold for their contributions to the environment.

At least they DO bear some resemblance to North American natives. Any flower is better than grass!

Some wildflower cultivars are so far from the original that they are barely recognizable.

These orange wildflowers are still included in the orange native flowers list because of their hardiness.

It's pretty difficult to resist a plant that just won't stop, year after year. When it comes in orange, too, that just HAS to be a good thing. Plant Black Eyed SusanĀ  flower seeds and variations for nonstop color and bloom.

Do keep in mind that these wildflower seeds and wildflower plants really can't be considered the same as a true prairie-thriving rudbeckia. It won't do as well in a rough environment, and won't offer the same host or nectar value as the native variety.

It will, however, offer a long bloom time. Again, any wildflower perennial far outshines turfgrass!
